Link is Antisocial

Princess Pea- Zelda, Link, Ganondorf/Gannon, Tingle along with a bunch of annoying fairies and sprites make up the cast in Nintendo's Zelda universe. Its a world that revolves around one, seemingly infantile, boy and his never ending quest to save some random female for reasons we can only imagine.

To do this the "young boy" must collect artifacts around the world in order to solve giant puzzles and kill giant monsters that only the "chosen one" can complete and kill. Eventually, with all the puzzles solved and all the monsters slain, the young boy heads off to battle whatever evil magic wizard type guy who has kidnapped the princess with thoughts of turning the female into some type of nuclear power plant or dooms day device.

Once the epic evil is slain the boy, well he gets to go home after getting a good pat on his back. Once in awhile he'll get a kiss on the cheek or some type of "respect" but basically the guy gets to go back to whatever he was doing. Depending on what era the game is based in, this includes vagabond, farmer, peaceful island do nothing and my personal favorite "back to being a kid". As if one could return to whatever they were doing, let alone being a kid, after killing thousands of creatures, dying a few hundred times and doing all sorts of other not normal life things.

The game series, as a whole, has not evolved to much sense its eight bit renditions in lines of plot. Things are still the same, which is good, except for where the characters come from, why the "big evil guy" is doing his "big evil things" and the way to get from A to B.

However, one of the main "problems" with Link (the main character) is that he does not speak. The silent protagonist gets talked at by many people and sometimes interjects a grunt or two. Now the real kick is what happens when we take that "feature" and throw some real life scenario in there.

Zelda: Heart For The Hero

It is a wonder how Link ever managed to buy anything in any of the games without his tongue. Then again, usually he just picked things up and showed it to the clerk. "I wan disn' an have dis much monies. I can haz?" Then again, there were a couple of points where Link could steal items, provided you never wished to go back to that shop again for fear of instant death.

"Now Hear This" (Short Film/Cartoon)

The Loony Tune, cartoon "Now Hear This" was the start of many great things down at Warner Brothers but the best part about any short animated film is its amusement quality.

One of the firs things that should be noted/noticed is that Chuck Jones, the director of this and many other cartoons during his time, basically said "Lets have fun with sound while utterly ignoring physics and logic." That is, of course, the best thing about cartoons after all. Also, the cartoon has a well known and good pointed moral. The grass is always greener on the other side but a hallucination will prove it brown.

Now Hear This

Possibly one of the best cartoons to have ever been made that doesn't include the actual "Loony Tunes" within it. One could argue that this was a bit "Do-Do" and could be in his world, somewhere, but that's not any fun, now is it? This is also the first Loony Tune to have the more "modern intro", at last according to what the internet has to say about this cartoon.

Nerd Cool

That title is the best way to really describe this blog as a whole and, if I dare so so, myself as well. Its something of a phenomena within recent years of my life, at least the last four or five, where nerd has slowly become cool. Now, this isn't a complaint but only a statement of what has been seen. My proof comes from bands like Daft Punk, songs like Electro Gypsy, techno in general, lightweight and sexy gadgets like the iPhone, the uprising of home game consoles and above all of this all are the nerds themselves. (Self Included)

In honor of this brilliant movement of "Nerd Cool" and as a "response" to Monday Artday's "Nerd Challenge" I give you.... well I give you this.

Fire and Music (Its F***ing Science!)

This on is a some what old clip from AOTS' "Its Effin' Science" catalog. How to make an equalizer out of fire. Give a watch then give a try but do avoid burning down whatever building you are in.

AOTS - Its F***ing Science Segment

For any of you who didn't recognize the song that was quickly played in the clip, its Still Alive from Portal's credits. The song is beautifully morbid and technologic.

Paranoia Agent

One of the most freaking twisted shows I have seen anime or otherwise. This series starts off making absolutely perfect sense then at about episode five it kicks you in the testicles, metaphorically speaking. The general thought process behind the show would be something of a mystery, but that's not entirely true.

The best message or idea that can be obtained from this would have to be "six degrees of separation". Each character is linked to one another, without your directly knowledge, at first, and sometimes in odd obscure ways. The brilliance of this is how it is done. A few times I had to drop the "No Way" comment, at least the first time I saw the thing.

This would be my second time viewing the 13 episode series and with two episodes to go I still don't remember how it ended. Perhaps I had not forgotten but the first few episodes made me forget instead?

Main Plot, or at least the starting main plot that isn't confusing, is simple. A not right in the head middle school kid wearing gold inline skates, a red cap and a smile goes around smashing people in the head with his dented golden baseball bat. The ones in the terrorized city call him "Shadow/Ghost/etc Bat" or "Shounen Bat". Quickly, you soon find out there is more to this and then you find that there is more and in the end the links that are made make so much sense you feel absolutely dumb.

Over all, my favorite part about the series is that each episode can, and does, stand on its own. There is the main story which runs from episode to episode but each episode can also be its own story, especially those after episode 6, without you needing to know much about the anime's other shows to follow along. There will be parts of "What?" regardless but its a DAMN GOOD SHOW.

Suggestion to watch is high. It has both English subtitled and dubbed, versions. You will miss out on things watching either version so it comes down to a matter of personal preference, unless you know Japanese. I flip-flop on that issue as right now I am watching it subtitled and the first time I viewed the show it was English dubbed.

Update: I did sorta remember the end, to an extent, and it reminded me that this anime also shows us to not lie about things.

Questionable Content (Web Comic)

Questionable Content is a daily updated blog which has a huge archive and giant following. Its a bit "hit and miss" with its humor but the running story is whats really cool. The best part is you can just kinda jump anywhere in the middle and follow either forward or reverse and not miss much, if anything.

The only problem I have with the thing is its awfully difficult romances. These "romances" get put a bit too "center stage" for a good chunk of the comic. A majority of which you just want to smack the characters around for being dumb, deaf or blind. I recall a few moments where I wanted the comic to stop there and not continue only because I was a bit sick of the "Who likes how" behavior within it.

The comedy of the strip is what keeps my attention for several hours at a time. That's right, this comic will make you forget what time it is and before you know it its almost 5:00AM and you've not done your daily blog post. Even if that blog post was to be about said item.

Nice Things To Say
  • Well Drawn
  • Usually Good Humor
  • Daily Updated
  • Lots of Strips to Read
  • Set Up as a Blog
  • Characters and Story Evolve With Time

Not Nice Things To Say
  • Romances Get Annoying
  • Daily Updated (Quickly Creates a Flooded Backlog and creates lost of interest as well as allowing for constantly new content)
  • When the Humor Misses it Misses BY MILES
  • Character Models Are Annoyingly "Normal"/Stereotypical

That last point in the "Not Nice Things To Say" section might be one of the points of the comic but after awhile I really became detached from the characters. Personally, I've read something like 300, or so, of the comic strips and there is almost 1500 total. Most of those I've seen are in the archive and the newer ones have included some rather interesting characters but, to be honest, if you can't "catch up" then there isn't much point to starting to read the comic now, in my opinion at least.

Here Comes DR. TRAN!

Dr. Tran is a very funny flash animation hosted by Lone Sasage and Mondo Mini Shows. Its a very simple concept but can't be described properly so a video is what is needed. (Language Warning for "sensitive viewers")

Here Comes DR TRAN

There is also an amusing Dr. Tran Fan Mail section you might want to check out. Personally, I have sent Dr. Tran a letter with the slim hopes that it might be answered against his will. If it does get answered, I'm going to give that video special treatment. Of course there is no way to prove it was my mail, but whatever.

Not Big On Horror (The Unborn)

Most, if not all, recent horror movies usually leave me with a yawn. A majority are that of the "gore-no" where that the only thing to the movie is lots of blood and gore. Porno + gore = gore-no.

It takes a lot for me to even loosely recommend anything in the horror genre that isn't done on the lines of "You might find this funny". Some of my personal favorites are from the eighties and early nineties and I was barely a fetus for most of them.

However, The Unborn is something that did get my attention. The movie was seen a few days ago and does deserve a bit of an "honorable mention" for keeping my attention throughout. What grabs me would be the special effects. The plot was poor and figured out before the movie was in its second act but no one watches horror movies for plots.

Effects, these are what saved the movie! The music and sound was "okay" while leaving the whole thing to be sold on things like the upside down dog head demon and spooky ghost kid. The ending, not the "right before credits" ending, had this rather stylized Jewish exorcism which resulted in some nasty spirit on helpless dude(ette)s action.

The Unborn Trailer

Well, that's the movie right there. No need to actually watch it now, sorry. I do hope you will forgive me for ruining the plot and "epicness" that was The Unborn.

!Ultimate Crab Battle!

Prepare yourself for the longest most epic battle of shark verses crab that you will ever see. A game that is only a really long boss fight between a kid riding a small shark and the giant KING CRAB.

Like most bosses, especially final bosses, the King Crab has several transformations which have a set pattern that you are to discover and exploit. Each transformation and attack is a bit odd but funny, when you aren't playing and said "funny attack" isn't dangerous any longer. One of the oddest, and possibly dumbest, moves/transformations for King Crab is his "coral attack". That's right! The giant crab monster, thing, attacks with coral. At first, this sounds kinda dumb but do as the sign says and "Don't Touch".

The game gives you three lives/continues and a small health bar to do as much damage to The King Crab, as possible. Personally, I tested the game on easy and found it... easy. However after that the difficulty levels jump rather drastically. The only part on normal that I had trouble with was the speeding pearl lights of doom. To be fair, this move killed me on easy as well.

All in all, the game is a blast! Its easy to play but not exactly easy to win.

Give it a whirl, here. A link is also in the sidebar but don't count on individual games and such staying to long as the list is getting a bit cumbersome.

Next Blog has a new post as well.

Imagine Grater (SyFy vs SciFi)

Despite its recent and possibly dumb name change, the SyFy (Know previously as SciFi) channel has some of the best programming on TV. Ranging from original movies and series to reruns of older shows that "fit the theme", the SyFy channel is an avid watch for myself. Some of the regular programs watched in this home range from newer and older shows, along with movies a mini series or two and some of the staples that come with the SyFy channel like Ghost Hunters.

A favorite for myself is EUReKA, a show that describes itself as "about the smartest little town in America". Basically its a futuristic like town that is within our own time frame which is sanctioned by the government to house the greatest minds in one place. This creates great accomplishments and problems. The problems are "fixed", usually, by someone of a more "normal" mental status. That guy being Jack Carter, the town sheriff.

Really, he's not a dumb guy by the average standards but the town he's in makes him come across as rather stupid. The funniest thing, however, is that his solutions to the problems that are caused not only make perfect sense to the viewer but also to the other characters around him. Something I enjoy the simplest answer. I enjoy it more when it was also the idea that popped into my head.

The whole town is filled with some eccentric masterminds and grands of intelligence but I think one of my favorite characters has to be Douglas Fargo. Fargo, as most of the town mostly calls him, is basically a screw up. No one overly special among the rest but generally knows enough to get himself into and, sometimes, out of trouble. The main problem that Fargo has is his general overall quirkiness among those around him, that and he's not one for keeping his mouth shut. Personally, Douglas Fargo has to have one of the crappiest roles among those in the city (town gopher) while retaining his general comedic appeal.

Main point: Eureka's third season is not keeping up to tabs with its other two. It has some major goods but its current negatives are slowly driving me, and a few other viewers I know, away from the show. For one thing, its driving a few romances a bit to hard. The romances are good, in total, but one in particular is getting a bit to much "face time" for my liking. That being the one of Jo Lupo (Deputy Sheriff) and Zane Donovan (One of the main researchers at Global Dynamics). The main reason is that Zane is difficult to tolerate as a character. It was much better when the guy only appeared when he was needed but now the on screen time is just... intolerable.

I understand that the point of the constantly "new" budding romances are to make you grow more attached to characters and possibly identify but Zane comes across more of a loner even when with Jo. The whole relationship seems a bit forced within the series. I think this is because that outside of the show they might be dating. I'm not certain but from their appearance in Warehouse 13 the two were also a couple, the actors not the characters.

Overall, I guess I'm just not fully pleased with the new season. The show still has its charm and I do catch it when I can but that feeling that I just had to see it every Friday or Thursday or Wednesday or whatever day it was on in the past, just isn't there anymore. Although, three seasons is better then the average life span for most shows.

Monty Does It Again (HALOID)

Who remembers me talking about this guy in this post? Not a lot of you? That's okay because you are new. No biggy!

Well, Monty has done something a bit more "Dudel friendly" and used characters I actually know. I'm not really into the DOA or FF series but have played a good chunk of Metroid and Halo. That's right, Master Chief v Samus Aran!

I'd really suggest watching the whole video, despite any odd and/or confusing things you may see in it. If you are a big Halo fan you might call foul on something but come on, its all in good fun.

HALOID

Watch after the credits for something extra "special". When I say "special" I do mean "short bus" special, at least today I do. Some of you might know that as sQecial, with a Q. If you do not, then don't worry as its probably better for your sanity.

Then again, anyone who is a big Master Chief fan and not a fan of Link, or can at least take a joke, should watch this.

Halo: Lost In Time

You may wish to view Lemon Kiss, as well. There is a nice recipe for Eggs Benedict on it, now. I was always curious, does that mean the eggs are traitors?

More Musical Messages (Otep)

Those that regularly view the blog of "Solve Unamusement" will know that when something is musical and has some form of message along with something I can follow, then I like it.

Otep was introduced to me via this song "Perfectly Flawed" by a friend and I do enjoy its over all feeling. I'm not sure what genre it is, though. I know its something of the rock genre but its some form of sub metal as well.

Otep - Perfectly Flawed

This is even the direct video that was sent to me. I'm not going to lie, however, and say that this song or whatever genre its from isn't a "mood piece" that requires you to be or need to want to be in a certain frame of mind. Its a good spirit booster for some and at the same time has this light "heart string" tone to it that could be thought of as depressing.

Its a mood piece as most of their music seems to be, Otep. Give it a listen and if you don't fully enjoy it you can always complain via comment.

DEADLINE (Stop Motion Animation)

Here is a quick little animation done in stop motion. I do enjoy stop motion and find it one of the most difficult of all things to film next to hand drawn animation. Hand drawn animation being a stop motion with the addition of actually drawing the objects to animate.

Feeling a bit lazy, again, today so going through some of the small bookmarks that are noted for blog post. This one was given via the Cantr forums by someone of the online nick of "Wiro", I think it was Wiro, but as it wasn't an actual suggestion this will not be posted in suggestions. However, I'd like to thank Wiro for finding and sharing this as I share it with the rest of you. Enjoy this silly little post-it animation.

DEADLINE

Circles are Sexy!

Once everyone reaches an age we start to over look simple things. Simple things like basic shapes and colors. I for one, try my best to see those things first. No, its not a clock that keeps time it is a rather large circle that happens to have a clock inside it.

So many things need, included and are based on the circle. The general idea and find of such a wonderful design is only attainable by absolute math and nature. Its a wonder that it takes complex calculations to get an actual perfect circle. So many are close that they appear perfect but only nature does it so.

Trees rings, eyeballs (which are technically spheres but something like that will get a temporary pass) and all other sorts of wonderful things. Some of man's "favorite things" are circular and curved, how can such "things" not mean that the circle is a grand gift of mathematics and natural selection?

I give you a goal! Fine me a circle, any circle and share it. Tell us where it was found, who was nearby on the date and time you found the magical π!

aniBOOM

Something random that I am going to start doing, especially when having a brain fart for one reason or another, is to start sharing channel specific animations. That channel being aniBOOM.

This will start with a simple short about a rabbit and his magician. I say a rabbit and HIS magician as, well watch the vid and you'll understand.

Rabbit Animation

This small cartoon was an "amusement response" to, or was it with, Simon's Cat.

You might wanna check out the other animations that aniBOOM has but then you loose the interest when I "pick one special". Already have a few waiting in the line up in the near future.

Doing this allows me to be lazy, sometimes. Today, I feel tired and lazy so please... slack. Another channel I might "poke at" is Future Thought, however, this one might not be as often as the other.
