Look Again (Persona 3)

Yes, this is another post about an old amusement but after taking something of a "hiatus" from the PS2 (and non emulated console games in general) this game has to be the easiest of RPGs to simply drop and come back to.

The story conveniently tells you several times what happened last week or what you're supposed to be doing with just a few "Hello random character" type of comments. Problem is, a majority of characters (unless having an event*) repeat themselves at an irritating level. Some games will have [NPC] characters maybe say three things in total while Persona 3 seems happy with a single one.

But, again, what grabbed me into the game was its music. So much so that its soundtrack was searched for and "found" in order to listen. The game is so full with uniqe and new music that the soundtrack has 26 tracks on it! 26 tracks on a video game soundtrack. The best part is all the music is actually in the game. A lot of soundtracks for video games include "relevant songs" from popular artists, but not this one.

The Golden Age of Video

Epic movies plus some epic television mixed in with some really good background type music all mixed together to form what was the past century in what it meant in terms of television and movies alike.

The funny thing about this is that I, personally, have seen more than enough of those films to be able to understand what and where without to much direction. Suppose that means the television raised me a bit more then it should have.

FLASHBACK (PBBGs)

First and foremost comes Solve Unamusements opinion about PBBGs on a very general level. Like everything else they have their pros and cons but after an extended period of time, one of each should be added.

Con: Because they are so simple, a lot of PBBGs can easily be forgotten or bailed on for one reason or another.
Pro: Because they are so simple, it is rare that much is missed if you bail and come back later.

Syrnia was like that, personally, for this writer. Had forgotten the game for a good one hundred and twenty days (exactly) and was then reminded by email that my account may be removed. This was my ticket back to playing (though not as often/much as before) and because of how most PBBGs work nothing was missed from the time off.

So in memory of PBBGs that have been suggested and are either mostly not played or not played at all anymore, a list of all the PBBGs that have been posted via Solve Unamusement. Out of this list, only two are being played (one is because it is yet in closed Alpha.)

I could take 39, 42 if I Lie.

How many baboons could you take in a fight? (armed only with a giant dildo)

Not much else to say other than to thank Ting for finding such a simple yet awesome amusement.

Pacman Tetris

Pac-Attack!

A game that is 80% Tetris and 20% Pacman is nothing but win. The game doesn't run in odd shapes but more along the lines of Dr. Mario or Magic Jewelry. The shapes are very constant (Short L pieces in the case of Pac-Attack) with typical finish a row across and get points etc. The difference is the ghosts and Pacman.

On the SNES and Sega Genesis (as well as ports to Gamegear and GBC) the game doesn't seem to get that much attention beyond a certain group of puzzle solving manics. Give the game a whirl, if you can.

The Picard Song/Video

Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG)was something which was grown up on in my own home. That being said, everyone who's seen TNG knows who Captain Jean Luc Picard is. He is the captain of the Enterprise!

History out of the way, this song by online handle name "DarkMateria" (Link to MySpace Music. Out of the three songs listed on site, it isn't much of a wonder why "The Picard Song" has grown the popularity it has.

Power Outage (Blog/Personal News)

Due to a rather annoying power outage earlier today, a lot of things on this PC have been going half-retarded and as such an amusement to post is becoming a tad annoying with things not wanting to work at 100%.

Nothing is directly wrong with hardware, the system is just fighting some basic issues and probably needs (yet another) defrag and diskclean. Hardware is fine because it was checked.

So call this a pause/place holder for the day. Regular posting shall continue tomorrow and not doing as such is apologized for. This is at least a chance to add another smile to the pile.

Additional Note: Blogger is not always wanting to listen. Draft =/= Scheduled post.

Blog Roll

A few amusement watched blogs that haven't gotten any face time as of late. Some are friends or friends of friends, yet others are simply pulled from unknown places.

  • One Crazy Fool, And Some Other Stuff. - Friend of mine's blog about her life and some other random odd things. Suggest really checking out some of her related links. It is a personal blog but she plugs the most random/odd things.

  • when is evil cool? - Similar to Solve Unamusement in its manner of blog posting but with a bit more of a random/odd twist. Unsure how to explain but the blog, itself, lists plenty of random (and sometimes brilliantly obscure) amusements.

  • BibliOdyssey - Not 100% on this one. Its not actually read so much as "Oh look at the pretty pictures". Sure me, for that one.

  • BagaLagaLaga - An artist-nerd combo blogger and Solve Unamusement reader. Posts his art as well as some random/odd amusements of hisown.

  • Doshite! Doshite! - Friends blog. Its mildly inactive but is mostly music, currently.

  • Hellban High Road - Another random personal blog. She's odd, not much else can be said on that one.

PINK HEFFELUMPS!

Disney is magic with some of its stuff. Intoxicatingly annoying or brilliantly fun, a lot of Disney songs just can't help but be utterly amazing.

The Boy With The Incredible Brain

Its cool, its weird, its science! There isn't much to say about this other than what the video poster, themselves has not. In which case, a direct copy-paste is needed.

This is the breathtaking story of Daniel Tammet. A twenty-something with extraordinary mental abilities, Daniel is one of the world’s few savants. He can do calculations to 100 decimal places in his head, and learn a language in a week. This documentary follows Daniel as he travels to America to meet the scientists who are convinced he may hold the key to unlocking similar abilities in everyone. He also meets the world’s most famous savant, the man who inspired Dustin Hoffman’s character in the Oscar winning film ‘Rain Man’. (2005)

The Pie Who Loved Me

With Billy and Mandy comes Evil Con Carne. Originally the two cartoons shared a thirty minute blocked called "Grim and Evil". The two cartoons would take turns within this block, ranging from short little one minute and thirty second cartoons to each getting an even 12/12 minute split (As a thirty minute cartoon is only 24 minutes long due to commercials.) Eventually each cartoon got its own spot, Billy and Mandy lasting the longest as separate entities of one another.

Basic run down of Evil Con Carne is this: Evil "wants to control the world" mastermind gets exploded. His brain and stomach are saved by his creepy love struck lab assistant who puts said brain and stomach onto a bear for a host. Skar is a military general who wants to control the world but is generally to much of a fail to do much about it. These three (the bear, the love struck lab chick and Skar the military general of epic failure) all work together in attempts to take over the world. So it is Pinky and The Brain minus mice add odd group of bad relationship puns.

Roses and Wings

A story in which a few chapters, see that as two and a half, which were read but as reading is not a Solve Unamusement specialty and the story writer something of an acquaintance, a plug isn't harmful when that's all this site basically does anyway.

Some of you will be intrigued by it, others bored stiff. Those who manage to read it all and not grow tired of it please, drop a line and give a loose breakdown. That's right, an amusement which wasn't fully tasted. However, if one read posts about Shaiya Online, this isn't too out-of-place.

Blog/Story Writer Says:

A story of deceit, intrigue, love, power, passion, rage, and everything that makes a story great.

ZOMBIES!

That's right, Zombies! Solve Unamusement readers, it is with pleasure that this writer gives you the only sub-genre of horror, next to the "monster movie" which zombie movies fit into, that is enjoyed.

Zombies are the awesome little buggers that eat brains and are the walking dead. You've seen them, don't lie.

Notes should be made that while "zombies" and "the infected" are technically the same thing, and are generally lumpped together via Solve Unamusement, these are two different breeds.

Simply put:

BTN: Zombies, Fast or Slow

Or to put it simply, even further:

  • Fast Zombies = Quick scare but no real tension but still totally awesome.
  • Slow Zombies = Suspense rather than a scare but still totally awesome.

Expect more zombies in the future, as they are a Solve Unamusement favorite of the horror genere. They are mostly the only horror favorite minus the odd overly done graphic fests of "cool CG bro".
