Aladdin (Sega Genesis)

It is as Wiki has said, the SNES version of Aladdin and the Genesis version are vastly different. And to cut it quick and simple, the Genesis version is better if not a lot more difficult and unforgiving.

The differences between the two games are quickly apparent when you have played both of them so close to one another. The similarities, beyond the story and the fact they are platformers, are also very obvious. Lets check out both, differences and similarities as seen, by Solve Unamusement.

First thing anyone will notice after booting up the game is that Aladdin has a sword, a scimitar to be exact. However, the apples will hit enemies from afar and are always in plenty so don't be afraid to use them. The game is still short, like the one for the SNES, but it is also noticeably longer. The music for both games were obviously very similar, as well, though one of the two smash the other to no end in comparison. One bit point, gems in the Genesis version actually had a point to them. Gems were used to buy extra levels as well as "Genni Wishes" or "Continues" as one might call them.

Lets break this down a little.

Fusion (Sega Emulator)

Some may or may not know that while this writer is a very obvious Nintendo fanboy that some Sega games are enjoyed. One Sega game which is fully enjoyed has always been PSO but that's not today's point.

Today we speak of the only Sega based emulator on your Solve Unamusement writer's PC. That emulator being the Fusion

Pacman Tetris

Pac-Attack!

A game that is 80% Tetris and 20% Pacman is nothing but win. The game doesn't run in odd shapes but more along the lines of Dr. Mario or Magic Jewelry. The shapes are very constant (Short L pieces in the case of Pac-Attack) with typical finish a row across and get points etc. The difference is the ghosts and Pacman.

On the SNES and Sega Genesis (as well as ports to Gamegear and GBC) the game doesn't seem to get that much attention beyond a certain group of puzzle solving manics. Give the game a whirl, if you can.

Phantasy Star Online (PSO)

Sorta kinda an MMO but not really, Phantasy Star Online (PSO from here on out) is technically only "multilayer". There is a lobby section where characters/players may interact but the game itself is only 1-4 players.

Solve Unamusement finds this game a bit difficult to classify, though it is mostly Sci-Fi and Fantasy mixed. Dragons, wizards, giant mole... things but there are lasers, "credits/messta" and space ships! The game is a spin off, one would suppose, of the original Phantasy Star for the original Sega Systems. Mostly for the Genesis, however (Where Phantasy Star mostly got its popularity). Seems they were redone for the GBA, as well, if one wishes to check those out.

But back to the game at hand. Released on multiple consoles, the Sega Saturn at first as two different games (A version 1 and a version 2), and later on the Gamecube and Xbox.

Personally, this blogger/gamer started with the Xbox version and until recently didn't even know there was a PC version of the game.

PSO: Blue Burst (PSO:BB from here on) is a direct Xbox port with the addition of an adidtional episode and can be obtained for free with acess to a free, and very dedicated, server. That server and download will be provided a little further down the list. However before that is listed a few things must be let known. The game's install is slightly faulty and requires anyone who can't "fix their own problems" either have a guiding hand (Sorry, no help from Solve Unamusement) learn by trial and error or not play.

The main problem for a majority of installs is that the icon which is created both on the desktop as well in the startmenu does not have the correct target rout. This can be fixed by selecting the icon, right clicking then going to properties. There the "target box" can be found and if install was done with all default settings...

"C:\Program Files\Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst\online.exe"

That may be pasted in the box and everything should work.

That being that, the game is brilliantly fun (if not having a bit of a learning curve). Unlike other online games, PSO doesn't require a heavy commitment either. Simply need to play the game once every 90 days to keep your characters active on the server.

Co-co-co... NEWS! (Wait what?)

Time for Blog News!
MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Today we talk about some simple little things ala Dudel. These things aren't really any big of a deal but would not hurt to share. As there is no real location for me to vent other then, here, this will have to do. Blog update situations will also be explained.

Dudel News

  • Recently I have been downloading a lot of ROMs for the ZSNES, VBA and there was a ROM set downloaded the first time the NEStopia was spoken about. Added to these is the K-Fusion, now simply called Fusion, and ROM sets for 3 Sega systems and I have about 4000 games on my PC.

  • Recently I have been at a loss for these as I was never "into" Sega but I know good games are there. With the fusion allowing me to play multiple Sega system's and the ROM sets I officially have enough games to last me until I am dead and buried. Even if my estimation is off but a couple thousand.

  • This, however, has not stopped me from getting more ZSNES and VBA compatible games as I do not have full system ROM sets for these. I could obtain ROM sets for those systems but I actually know them so that is a little bit pointless unless hoping to find something obscure.

  • Recently I have been playing a lot of Pokemon Fire Red, emulated on my VBA, for the GBA. As with my last post, we know I had some troubles. (Got my Pokemon to level 40 before I realized I should fix the problem)

Blog News

  • Some may, or may have not, noticed that things get slightly changed on a regular basis here. I just want to state that is because I am always looking for easy to use widgets that do not envolve me actually editing my page templates HTML.

  • Altering the HTML can, and has, lead to problems with current set up. At one point in the future I may do a "wipe" and completely revamp things but that will not be any time soon.

  • If any of you know of a widget, or simple html/java script that can be used as a widget which would allow me to have random "Yes or No" questions, I would appreciate it.

  • I feel random "Yes or No" questions, without actually thinking them myself and making polls would add a bit of interaction to Solve Unamusement while not being distracting from the main goal of the page that day.

  • These questions would be helpful if randomly changed by somewhere else and on a daily basis.

  • I could, and will eventually, end up creating my own random "Yes or No" questions using the poll options that Blogger.com has if nothing comes up.

That is all for this days post, and like my other news posts is being nonscheduled and written the day before. I do hope those that read this enjoy it, even when I get a bit "agro" and start attacking sites. I'd like to state a special thank you and welcome to Lur, as he is a very appreciated commenter! Also his suggestion will be covered some time next week. A week for myself spans about ten or fifteen days when taken into retrospect to my sleep cycle and understanding of time.

And to keep you amused, here is a song inspired by Portal using various sounds from GLaDOS by Victims of Science.

Vid has been moved, here.
