Solve Unamusement quickie, of sorts, where you readers tell which Oompa song wins in terms of epic. This post is not about which one is "better" as both are equally awesome in terms of what Wonka is. The original with Gene Wilder is something everyone grew up with while, of course the new one is somehow a re-hash (yet being more adapted to the source material). Egg, nut, whatever this is about the music.
Willy Wonka - Verruca Salt
Charlie and the Charlie Factory - Verruca Salt
Personally, the second string of songs are more involved. Not to mention that the characters are actually aware that the Oompa Loompas are singing. In the original film, the singing took a side-story and everyone ignored anything happened.

I much prefer the original ones - I thought the newer version was superior in most respects, except for these songs. The new ones blow away the originals with visuals (the highlight of the Gene Wilder version is an Oompa Loompa cartwheel), but the songs were just not catchy, and the vocals were more whiney.
I was not sad to see "Cheer Up, Charlie" go, though.
I was glad to see a LOT of the original songs go, like "I want it now" with Verruca... but I generally agree with your notions.
The Oompa Loompa songs from the original are a lot more catchy.
