Angel's Egg

Ever found yourself finding something that was just to good to describe with words? No? Just me? Well if it isn't just those at Solve Unamusement that look at Angel's Egg with astonishment then you will have to forgive us for wasting your time. Wait, that's why you're even here so nevermind.

Angel's Egg is a 1985 Anime that is produced by some people who are important to the industry today, or something, but we don't care. What we do care about are visuals and sound. The entire Anime has maybe one paragraph of text so is perfect for those "I hate sub Anime" people (to which I used to be one of and could have been sold on this back then).

The entire movie is written with sound design in mind and the visual appeal is just astonishing. Remember, this was done in 1985 and that shows but, at the same time, you can feel the images that are put forward on the screen.

And considering the last time Solve Unamusement touched an Anime it was Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged, we shall be hitting quite a few Anime within the next few months.

Follows are some visual aids and then an actual download. The download is being provided simply because the movie is one pain in the ass to track down; with English subs, anyway. It should be noted that the Anime does suffer from a light bit of Engrish, however very minor.

Within you? With you, sure, but not within you; that would be weird. Egg inside of places it should not be, aside, this is a really great movie and very much worth a watch! Did I mention the characters have no names? (Angel's Egg Wiki)

Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series

The TV show/anime/4kids redo of Yu-Gi-Oh! was rather popular with myself and it wasn't until recently that The Abridged Series was brought to Solve Unmusement's attention. At this time there was already a good solid following but this is typical for amusement posts. Late to the party, and other nonsense of that nature.

A few notes before watching are that the series starts off slow and is most enjoyable if the characters are known. That being if you've seen at least one or two episodes this series is a bit more funny. However such a thing isn't needed and only adds to the humor if you're a fan of having memories mocked and poked at.

As stated before, the creator and operator of Solve Unamusement is what one might call a "nerd". This is okay, as it means a wide range of topics to speak/type upon.

Howl's Moving Castle

Indirectly suggested by a steampunk blog which is not always watched for amusements (however is now because of this), Howl's Moving Castle is a very nice story of the Anime variety.

The blog that was linked has the embedded video but as it takes no harm in re-posting the embedded link here, it shall be done. However might I suggest if anyone has a media player, video to be specific, they might wish to download from Anime Stop, instead.

Upon some very minor research this film was apparently a book first. Although it implies that the interpretation or alteration, depending on your point of view, was skewed from the original. All in all, it's a good story.

Paranoia Agent

One of the most freaking twisted shows I have seen anime or otherwise. This series starts off making absolutely perfect sense then at about episode five it kicks you in the testicles, metaphorically speaking. The general thought process behind the show would be something of a mystery, but that's not entirely true.

The best message or idea that can be obtained from this would have to be "six degrees of separation". Each character is linked to one another, without your directly knowledge, at first, and sometimes in odd obscure ways. The brilliance of this is how it is done. A few times I had to drop the "No Way" comment, at least the first time I saw the thing.

This would be my second time viewing the 13 episode series and with two episodes to go I still don't remember how it ended. Perhaps I had not forgotten but the first few episodes made me forget instead?

Main Plot, or at least the starting main plot that isn't confusing, is simple. A not right in the head middle school kid wearing gold inline skates, a red cap and a smile goes around smashing people in the head with his dented golden baseball bat. The ones in the terrorized city call him "Shadow/Ghost/etc Bat" or "Shounen Bat". Quickly, you soon find out there is more to this and then you find that there is more and in the end the links that are made make so much sense you feel absolutely dumb.

Over all, my favorite part about the series is that each episode can, and does, stand on its own. There is the main story which runs from episode to episode but each episode can also be its own story, especially those after episode 6, without you needing to know much about the anime's other shows to follow along. There will be parts of "What?" regardless but its a DAMN GOOD SHOW.

Suggestion to watch is high. It has both English subtitled and dubbed, versions. You will miss out on things watching either version so it comes down to a matter of personal preference, unless you know Japanese. I flip-flop on that issue as right now I am watching it subtitled and the first time I viewed the show it was English dubbed.

Update: I did sorta remember the end, to an extent, and it reminded me that this anime also shows us to not lie about things.

Chobits

The basic plot of Chobits, as I see it: Farm Boy meets robot computer girl. Robot computer girl falls in love with farm boy. Farm boy does best to avoid doing the same as he grows random crushes on random females within his surroundings.

As of the start of this post I have finished sixteen of the twenty seven episodes of Chobits. By the end of the day I hope to get to one of the final episodes if not finish it completely, so I figured it would be okay to pass my vote and then continue this tomorrow.

The show has some great parts and I have only seen one episode that wasn't absolutely amusing. It was one of those "catch up" episodes that a lot of shows have so I'm not counting this against the show as a whole. From I can see of future episode names I see only two or three more total out of the twenty seven so, again, no harm.

Overall the show's humor is what really gets me. There is a good romance story with multiple characters all giving great, if not a bit annoying, foreshadowing about the two main characters. I will also not take away from possible annoying voice acting. So I'll break this down into goods and bads.

Goods

• Great Humor.
• Not Horrible Romance
• Well Animated
• Good, if not easily figured out, plot

Bads

• Drawn out "middle parts" that only lead to a small joke
• Annoyingly not needed foreshadowing
• Pushes the "Soft Porn" mark at times

One common part I am currently enjoying is this "Children's Story" that is added in the middle as foreshadowing. Its the only foreshadowing within the anime that I like. The rest is this "3rd Party" thing. Implying on the main character via his new friends and family. Upon completion of this post I am on eighteen of twenty seven.

One another small note: I am also not sure about what is about with Chii's alternate self with reference to the rest of the show.

Chobits is also a manga but I'm generally allergic to reading.

Update:While the last episode is basically pointless the show as a whole is very great and has a nice overall theme. I could do without the "wrap up" shows (as was the last one), the slightly annoying "Sumomo" (but I think that was the point of the character), and the easy to figure out plot. A lot of the "twists" didn't seem to surprise me any. Well, its a nice show.. give it a run through.

FLCL

An "oldie" by goody. Recently downloaded and seen, once again, FLCL or Fooly Cooly is beyond amusing show. The utter randomness of it just screams Solve Unamusement. Guitars, yellow scooters (a Vespa to be exact) and giant robots! Not to mention some PG-13 hints on some subjects, the "horn" being one of them.

The basics of the story.

• Young sixth grade kid has normal life after college bound brother moves to America.
• Odd Vespa chick comes out of no place and nails said kid in the head with her vespa scooter... then her guitar, then her foot, then her.. you get the point.
• Horn grows out of kids head.
• He tries to hide said horn with bandages and hats.
• Horn turns into robot monster thing trying to destroy the city.
• Weird Vespa chick and boy destroy robot monster thing.

That is a very bare idea of the show and only the first episode. I've left out some things from my break down but that is to encourage you to actually watch the show. You could possibly find the show online but I have provided a site that offers safe Anime downloads. The site also has anime movies as well as a lot of popular and unpopular series both Anime and non.

Solve Unamusement fully supports anyone who wants to watch this. Solve Unamusement also high fives anyone who likes the show and its characters.
